Non-Us Based Typewriter Enthusiasts

We have seen many online posts of non-US typewriter enthusiasts lamenting that our services are not easily available to them and that after factoring in costs and risk of loss of damage shipping back and forth to the US, costs may be too high.

Not necessarily true……we have shipped platens to all regions of the world and recently in order to address the concerns of shipping back and forth to the US we have added a new wrinkle to our services that has proved very successful.

If you want to get fresh new rubber on your platen and feed rollers but cannot find a suitable source near your area or find that those that are offering recovery services are very expensive please contact us. We are a rubber manufacturer first so we know what material and hardness is needed on your platens and since we entered the typewriter restoration fray in 2012 we have an extensive database of the proper specifications for hundred of makes and models of machines.

We have two options for you!

TRADITIONAL SERVICE: You would remove your platen and/or rollers and ship to us in the US for stripping and recoating with new fresh rubber. You would pay for shipping to us and for return shipping back to you plus any customs charges that are applicable.

OPTIONAL SERVICE: Here you take a greater part in your restoration process. You would contact us with the make and model of your machine. We will communicate with you to confirm various measurements of your platen and feed rollers, if applicable and don’t worry you do not need fancy calipers or micrometers to measure though they certainly help—we can work with you to ensure that what we send you will fit and work with your machine. Once you order we go through the exact same process here as we do as if your platen/rollers were in our shop. We will test fit your tubes to in-house cores of a similar machine and even send you a video of how we mount the rubber. We also provide you with instructions, tips and tricks on removing the old rubber and mounting the new. Plus you save on shipping costs one way to us and eliminate the risk of loss of your machines parts shipping back and forth to/from the US.

For our friends in the EU effective July 1, 2021, we will only ship Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU): This requires the us to provide your email or phone number, an accurate product description and a HS Code. VAT is not paid at the time of sale, you, the buyer in the EU country becomes responsible for paying the fees before you can receive their product. We will not be responsible for any customs or brokerage fees, duties or taxes or delays in shipment. We apologize for any inconvenience, we are a small family owned company and we simply do not have the resources to address the new rules and regulations implemented by the EU on imports from non-EU countries.
